Transforming Care at the Bedside How-to Guide: Optimizing Communication and Teamwork Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) is a national effort of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Institute for Healthcare Improvement designed to improve the quality and safety of patient care on medical and surgical units, More than 2,000 volunteers from all walks of life participate in diverse volunteer opportunities at Cedars-Sinai. Their roles include assisting visitors, working in the gift shop, delivering flowers and playing music for patients. TCAB program at Cedars-Sinai includes a wide variety of hand-on experience for people who want to become health professionals. This includes direct talking to real patients on a daily basis, and in my case many of them were dying patients, interacting with nurses and doctors, administrative work such as answering external and internal calls.
